Summer hockey camps for special hockey (Maryland and New Jersey)

There are American Special Hockey Association summer camps in the New Jersey and Maryland this year, and possibly one in Colorado. We received email notification as excerpted below. This is probably of limited interest to Minnesotans, but it's an interesting example of what's going on nationally.

You can find the registration forms on the ASHA website -- those pages have the key information. Note that "northeast" and "southeast" are both "northeast" from our perspective.

Hearing impaired girls hockey camp

We all know about special hockey and sled hockey, but there's also hearing impaired hockey. They are based in Chicago and run a hockey camp there. This year they're adding an all-girls team to the current boys and girls teams. We were asked to promote this request for girls teams players (I've edited the email to remove identifiers since this is a public site) ....

Subject: Deaf hockey players

Good afternoon,

My name is Jennie C and I am an interpreter for the American Hearing Impaired Hockey Association (AHIHA). Our organization hosts an annual hockey camp in Chicago designed exclusively for deaf and hard of hearing players, the only camp of its kind. This year we are putting together an all-girls team, for girls over the age of 14. We are looking for more girls for the team, especially a goalie, who can compete at a high school-level of play.

If any of you know of any girls who are deaf and hard of hearing that might be interested, please ask them to contact me as soon as possible. Our camp runs from June 13-20, 2010, near Chicago, Illinois.

Thank you very much for your time, I hope you will be able to help us out.

Jennie C
AHIHA Interpreter
