Update: News from Susie Miller August 2007

Excerpts from a Susie Miller email:
... in an effort to maintain the programs success for many years to come we have decided to attach our teams to existing associations. MN Special Hockey will always exist and make sure that the teams are running smoothly. MN Special Hockey will schedule games, manage tournaments (when our program is bigger), raise funds and serve as an information clearing house. You will still feel a part of MN Special Hockey, even more than the association. For the first few years MN Special Hockey will assist with everything. The goal is eventually our teams will be more independent so MN Special Hockey can continue to add and develop even more teams. The benefit of the collaboration is to help us secure ice, facilitate registration, team photos (we can join in on the associations pictures), and other association events. We will maintain our own identity! The three associations we are partnering with are Centennial (Playing at the Super Rink), Edina (Playing at MN Made), and Woodbury (Playing out of the South East St. Paul area-not completely confirmed).

We are going to ask you to register with the associations, however will offer an in person option if needed. Woodbury association is currently accepting online registrations (see registration page); if you need assistance with this we are happy to help. You may contact: Toni Boelter (tonib@dakcom.org or 651-307-0660), Toni is coordinator of the East Eagles. Edina and Centennial Registration will be opening soon. We will keep you posted.

Mark your calendars for a few events that we really need volunteers for.
These tournament hosts would love to see our players there!

Sunday, August 18 - Section 108 is hosting a golf tournament Section 108 donated $1200 to us last year and are giving us their proceeds again this year! They would like us to have volunteers at the tournament so they can see the benefit of their participation.

Sunday, August 25 - Monday, August 26
Hockey Docs Event. They are looking for people to be on the course on Monday and at the dinner on Sunday.

Please let me know if you are able to help with either or both of these

We are holding a Kick off Event on October 7th at 4pm at the MN Made Ice Center in Edina (see also our main page). This is an opportunity for our experienced skaters to lace up the skates and warm up. It is also a great opportunity to recruit more skaters. Please bring a friend or two or six and encourage them to give hockey a try. Before and after this event we will have an equipment swap at another Edina location. Details to follow.

We will also hold a raffle drawing at our Kick Off. Please consider selling raffle tickets to support special hockey. We will send out more information soon about the prizes and the details.

Have a great day!

Susie Miller
